Castelnaud

With water levels on the Dordogne too high for the Gabarre to sail, our boat trip became a visit to an excellent local castle- Castelnaud.

Castelnaud (meaning the new castle) is a castle founded in the 12th Century and over the course of history has fallen into both French and English hands.
Spiral staircases took us to the top of the keep with wonderful views of La-Roque-Gageac below.

Despite the rain, we managed to explore the castle's many rooms, trébuchet platform, hide in the walls and even fit a pupil or two in the canons!

No visit would be complete without a visit to the gift shop and a little bit of dressing up!
