Thursday- Gouffre de Padirac

Our second day began with a trip to the caves of Padirac. 103 metres underground we sought refuge from the high temperatures above ground.

Our gondoliers made our boats glide down the undergound river and we rocked and ducked, discovering the real reason the lake is known as 'the lake of rain'!

Exploring the cave network we entered an underground wonderland of grottos marvelling at the stalagmites and stalactites around us.

Those who were feeling energetic ascended the 569 steps back to the surface (the less energetic among us opted for the lift!)

A picnic in the sun followed (with a quick game of Uno) and now we're off to Martel for a train ride.
